Vicksburg National Military Park
The Illinois Monument was modeled on the Roman
Pantheon. The monument has 47 steps, one for each
day of the Siege of Vicksburg, and there are 60 unique
bronze tablets inside, naming all 36,325 Illinois soldiers
who fought in the Vicksburg campaign.
