The rain-swept, bonfire-lit Palais Badi in Marrakesh
prov ided a n a stonishingly photogenic backdrop for
Dior’s cruise show – but Maria Grazia Chiuri also offered
an outstandingly beautiful collection. Sometimes
the location overwhelms the clothes, but not here: the
desig ner used A f r ica a s inspiration, of fer ing bold pieces
in toile du Jouy printed on the Ivory Coast by an atelier
called Uniwax; she also collaborated with artists and
designers, including Grace Wales Bonner, on reworked
versions of house classics. This was a modern,
multicultural Dior, showing that luxury can be truly
