This was Virginie Viard’s solo debut
show for Chanel and the pressure
must have been immense – to respect
the legacy not only of her mentor,
Ka rl La ger feld, but a lso of t he
woman whose name the house bears.
That she kept a steady course would
have been enough; that she elegantly
proposed a new softness and ease for
the familiar silhouette made it a
triumph. The applause as she took
her bow said it all: a star is born.
