to Ridgecrest, CA. where she worked for the
Navy at China Lake.In1958 she moved to

her career with the Montgomery County Public
Schools working asaMedia Center Specialist
at Baker Jr.High and later at Sherwood High
School where she worked until retirement.
She enjoyed much of her retirement years
traveling with family and friends,serving as a
board member of her community in Leisure
World, MD.She also was the family historian
and enjoyed her genealogical research.
She is preceded in death by her parents,
husband George Courtney,and step-daughter
Andrea Boykin. She is survived by her sister,
Jean Bourne; son, Alan R. Mercer and partner
Diana Martin; son, GlennT.Mercer and wife
Emilie Mercer;step-daughter,Marcia Court-
ney; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-
grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at the Leisure
World Interfaith Chapel at 3680S. LeisureWorld
Blvd. Silver Spring, Md. 20906 on Saturday,
December 7, 2019 at2p.m.. Interment will be

born August 11, 1925 in Baltimore,MD.
Attended Cathedral Catholic Elementary
School and Polytechnic High School. Enlist-
ed inU.S.Army Air Corp during WWII serving
asaB-25 pilot stationed inTexas.After the
war he completed hisB.S.at University of
Maryland where he met his future wife,
VeraJ. Green (Pettit). He started his 30 year
career with the FBI in 1950. After getting
married at the Cathedral in Baltimore,MD
in May 1952, they moved to Cleveland, Ohio
for his first assignment with the Bureau.
They then relocated to theWashington
DC suburbs when he was transferred to
FBI main offices inWashington, DC.where
he and his wiferaised their three sons.
He and his wife then retired to Asbury
Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD.He
is survived by his wife of 67-1/2 years,
VeraJ.Green, and three sons,James E.
Green, III (Mary Lou), MichaelJ.Green
(Cindy Ann) and RussellT. Green (Cindy Lee);
four grandchildren, Joseph M. Green (Yana),
KevinF. Green, RussellT.(Travis) Green
and ReginaT.(Tristan) Green and two step
granddaughters,Tiffany and Channa and

4, 1917, the youngest of three children of Emil
and Hedwig Peterson.
She graduated from the University of Michigan
withaBachelor of Design degree.She married
MurrayD.Howard July 28, 1945 and had 40
loving years together before he predeceased
her in 1985. They lived in Minnesota where
she was active in Alpha Chi Omega and the
Episcopal Church. Her love for the PEO Sis-
terhood of which she wasamember for
63 years,led to her becoming President of
Minnesota State Chapter.In2005, Maxine
moved to Maryland to be near her only daugh-
ter,Deborah. She continued in PEO and was a
devoted member of St. Bartholomew's Church.
She will be missed by friends,extended family,

worth Johnson, ofPasadena, California passed.
Captain Laurence “Larry” Everett Johnson, lov-
ing husband for forty four years to Judy,from
Weston, Massachusetts,passed May 21, 2019.
Theybothhadsufferedfromrareformsof
dementia for the past several years.They were
the loving parents to their surviving children
LauraFiacco,Margaret Gillard, and Kathryn
Kohl. Larry is survived by his older brother
Frederick “Rick” Johnson. Larry and Judy are
survived by six lovely grandchildren: Matthew
Fiacco,Ellie Gillard, Henry Gillard, PennyKohl,
AbbyKohl, and GusKohl.
Judy and Larry met onablind date set up by
friends in California while Larry was stationed
there and married two years later.Larry,a
graduate of the United States Naval Academy,
wasaP-3 pilot for the US Navy for much of
his career,and served his country foratotal of
twenty seven years.Hewas deployed all over
the world during the ColdWar. Judy and Larry
lived andraised their children in California,
Rhode Island, Florida, and Virginia. Larry was
deployed inTurkey,Spain, Italy,the Philippines,
Iceland, Maine,and Portugal. Judy,ahistory
lover,wasadocent at GeorgeWashington’s
MountVernon Estate for several years.After
they retired, they built their dream home in
the Northern Neck of Virginia and lived on
the water forafew happy years before they
became ill.
Acelebration of their lives will take place at
the United States Naval Academy Chapel in
Annapolis,Maryland on November 15, 2019 at

1932 -2019
On November 3, Peter Huhn of Alexandria,VA
passed away followingashort illness.Hewas
surrounded by his loving family.Peter was born
in Philadelphia in 1932, graduated from the
HaverfordSchoolinHaverford,PAin 1952 and
Dartmouth College in 1956.Following college
his path into the Navy seemed predetermined.
He becameaNavalAviator and accumulated
10,000 flight hours and 800 carrier landings
in his 30 year career.Captain Huhn’sawards
include the Bronze Star.Hecontinued to talk
with his hands in true pilot fashion for many
years after retirement. His next career move
was into the Navy League where he served as
the Director of Legislative Affairs for 13 years.
He spent his retirement hitting tennis and golf
balls,and walking his well loved dogs...Philly,
Maizy and Caddy.Heeven triedabit of oyster
farming but he found his passion in golf and
was the President of theFort Belvoir Retired
Mens Golf Association for many years.He
developed wonderful friendships that carried
them all through the winter months with
lunches and the summer months with tourna-
ments,matches and travels around Virginia.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years,
Channing Brown Huhn; his daughters,Sally
Huhn (Rafa Orellana) of Rivas,Spain, Jenna
Huhn (fianceWesEppard) of Naples,FL; his
sons,Peter Huhn (Susan) ofTemecula, CA ,
Joe Huhn (Lori) of Orinda, CA. He took much
pride in his grandchildren, Elisa and David
Orellana, Matthew,Kristen and Andrew Huhn,
Jake and Scott Huhn. His loss is also felt by
his step sons,Jack Crutchfield (Christina),Paul
Crutchfield (Celeste) and step grandchildren,
Annabelle,Georgia, Ellie and Abby.

JORDAN EDWARD RIZER "Buzz"
OnTuesday the5ofNovember,2019, Jordan
Edward (Buzz) Rizer,Loving husband, father,
grandfather and great grandfather,passed
away at the age of 91. He was born August
29, 1928 in Chicago,IL, to the late Cecilia
RizerKenny and Hyman Rizer.Hereceived a
BS at the University of Chicago; Postgraduate,
University of Liverpool, England; Postgraduate,
GeorgeWashington University and Postgradu-
ate at the Harvard School of Government. He
hada50-year career of military and govern-
ment service which he began in the Army as
enlisted, then AirForce where he finished 20
years of military service retiring asaLt. Col.
He continued his Government service with the
Navy,asthe Director of Navy Broadcasting,
and ultimately became the Director American
Forces Information Service,afield activity of
the Defense Department, where he retired as a
Senior Executive on March 31, 1998. With the
Navy,hewas responsible for bringing Armed
Forces Radio andTelevision programming to
sailors overseas and on ships and submarines
at sea. With the DOD,heoversaw Armed
Forces Radio andTelevision Service,the Euro-
pean andPacific Stars and Stripes newspapers,
the Joint Combat CameraCenter,the Defense
Information School and the AmericanForces
Press Service.Mr.Rizer received numerous
DOD,Air Force and Navy awards,along with the
illustrious Legion of Merit award,aPresidential
Rank Distinguished award andaMeritorious
Executive award.
After retirement from the Government, Mr.
RizervolunteeredatSoutheasternAlternative
School and then Marshall Middle School, both
inFauquier County,VA. In 2012 he moved
fromWarrenton to Springfield,VA,and resided
at Greenspring Senior Living Community.He
enjoyed spending time with his family and
grandchildren. He wasaman of honor and
integrity and would treat everyone with
respectanddignity.
Jordan was preceded in death by his wife of 60
years Norma Dean Cole Rizer and his daughter
Colleen. He is survived by his sons,Timothy
(Barbara), David (Maureen), Eric (Nancy), Jef-
fery (Terenda) and daughter Shawn Internicola;
grandchildren, William, Viola, Michael, Martin,
Cyndi, Bailey,Jordan, Alexander,Nicholas,
Shaun, Tiffany,Kenneth, Elizabeth, Anthony
and Kathleen, as well as 20 great-grandchildren
and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held atFairfax Memo-
rial Funeral Home 9902 Braddock Rd.Fairfax
VA,22032 onWednesday 13 of November at
1:00 pm, viewing at 12 noon.
