USA TODAYSeeAPPLE TV PLUS, Page 5DWhether you want it or not, the streaming TV apocalypseis
coming, starting with the Nov. 1 launch of Apple TV Plus, the tech
giant’s first major foray into original television.
The new streaming service opens with just nine TV shows and
films: four live-action scripted series, three kids’ shows, a nature
documentary and a revival of Oprah’s famed book club. The series
all are quite different, spanning genres and styles, but they have
the uniting factor of being rather bland and generic, without much
vitality, save one potential gem. Apple may expect viewers to love
the series simply because they come from a storied brand, but,
like the company’s much-derided stylus pen, not everything the
company makes is perfectly designed.
As you decide which (if any) streaming service is worth a
subscription, here’s our take on the Apple crop, from the truly ter-
rible to the pretty good.USA TODAY z FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2019 z SECTION D‘Harriet’ holds up to history

franchise’s best film in nearly 30 years
- which says more about the series’
wretchedly low bar than the quality of
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s latest man-
vs.-machine action extravaganza.
Director Tim Miller (“Deadpool”) in-
cludes all the necessary bonkers se-
quences and explosions galore, and
Linda Hamilton shows up as a remind-
er of when “Terminator” was good, but
“Dark Fate” (eeEE; rated R; in thea-
ters Friday) ultimately blows up any
chance for innovative storytelling with
rehashed plot points and reheated sig-
nature moments.
The new film has a lot in common
with last year’s “Halloween” entry,
bringing back a middle-aged actress
as a no-nonsense warrior woman
while ignoring a bunch of unneeded
movies to simplify its canon. So “Dark
Fate” forgets the last three franchise
movies (if only we all could do the
same) and acts as a direct sequel to
1991’sstellar “Terminator 2: Judgment
Day,” when Sarah Connor (Hamilton)
stopped the murderous artificial in-
telligence Skynet from existing and
saved mankind’s future.
Sarah unfortunately finds out in
“Dark Fate” that the robopocalypse is
awfully hard to avoid, earning a fleet-
ing victory only to be followed by a
profound personal loss. Another A.I.
called Legion rises with a mechanized
army to wipe out civilization, a revolu-
tionary Rev-9 Terminator (Gabriel Lu-
na) is sent back in time to kill a young
Mexican woman, Dani (Natalia
Reyes), the enhanced super-soldier
Grace (Mackenzie Davis) arrives from
the year 2042 to protect her, and the
cavalry comes in the form of Sarah
wielding a bazooka. It’s different

The costume Jason Momoa wore on the Halloween
episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” may move
people to say, “Thank you, thank you very much.”
The “Aquaman” star appeared on Thursday’s show as
the one and only Elvis, in a pink, bell-bottom jump-
suit with a bedazzled eagle on its cape. “I am ob-
sessed with Elvis, slightly,” Momoa told DeGeneres,
who was impressed with his portrayal. The comedian
joined her guest in costume, dressed as Cardi E, an
homage to Cardi B’s “Hustlers” character.MICHAEL ROZMAN/WARNER BROS.MAKING WAVES
