To witness all the splendour of this area,
head to the Sails in the Desert hotel, about
20 kilometres away in the tourist-friendly
village of Yulara. This hotel offers a particu-
larly incredible experience, including a camel
ride in the desert followed by a moonlight
gastronomic dinner, all under an incredible
art installation called Field of Light. It’s a
particularly moving piece composed of
50,000 light bulbs that illuminate the
vastness of the desert.

The Red Centre
The spiritual heart of Australia, Uluru is located
far from mod cons within the Red Centre region.
This Australian desert is dotted with a rich vari-
ety of flora and fauna that beg to be witnessed.
Some favourite activities include the hike at dawn
via the Kings Canyon Rim Walk, a six-kilometre
loop to all the best viewing spots of the breath-
taking canyon. See kangaroos, dingoes, rivers and
gardens firsthand at the base of the cliffs! Nestled
in the Red Centre by Kings Canyon, stop at Kings
Canyon Resort for a spot of glamping in simple,
comfortable rooms with views of local nature, a
lively bar and an incredible restaurant. Dinner is
served al fresco in the garden once night has
fallen and a crackling fire provides the sound-
track for enjoying the delicious five-course meal

For those who like to hike, there are guided tours at
dawn to experience the spiritual Ayers Rock site and
admire the 36 red rock domes that dominate the
Walpa Gorge. You can also discover Uluru’s magic
rock formation on bike and Segway, but make sure to
keep your eye on the time and temperature, as the
days can get burning hot. A guided visit allows you
to see the sacred Aboriginal spots, as well as the
mysterious Uluru rock caves, all now considered
a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
