Music and muses converge in Berlin to
celebrate Max Mara’s latest cruise collection
Cutting an impossibly chic figure in a pearlescent tux,
the German jazz singer Ute Lemper enraptured an equally
elegant audience at Spiegelsaal, Berlin’s most storied salon,
with a cabaret performance on the eve of Max Mara’s Cruise
2020 show. The following night, after the collection had been
unveiled in style at the monumental Neues Museum, Lemper
joined the actress Angela Bassett, the model Carolyn Murphy
and members of the Maramotti family (the Italian owners of
Max Mara) for a gala dinner in the Greek Courtyard gallery.
In a nod to the fashion house’s roots, slivers of caviar-topped
pizza and plates of lemon ravioli were served on tables
bearing bunches of snow-white snapdragons, as conversation
roved from the fall of the Berlin Wall 30 years ago to the
timeless allure of Marlene Dietrich.
