KNOW-HOW

Perfect Your Towel Display
You hemmed and hawed over those monograms, so
show them off with this three-step folding method

STEP ONE

Spread the towel on a flat
surface with the monogram
side facing down. Starting
with the two longest edges, fold
the right edge two-thirds of the
way toward the other side;
fold the remaining edge over.
Check that the monogram
is still centered.

STEP THREE

Fold it in half with the
monogram facing outward
and centered on the exposed
edge. Stack them in neat and
balanced rows with the largest
ones on bottom. (All towels are
from Georgia-based Weezie;
weezietowels.com.)

STEP TWO

Keep the monogram side
against the surface, and fold the
short, plain edge of the towel
one-third of the way toward
the center. Then fold over
the monogrammed edge so
you’re left with another
rectangle.

Align bottom
edges of
hanging
towels.

Match
initials and
banding
colors.

Pull towels
toward the
fronts of
the shelves.

INSIDER TIPS

So Polished!
Contributing Editor
Elizabeth Heiskell, author
of The Southern Living
Party Cookbook, shares
her silver-cleaning
do’s and don’ts

DO: Get it done ahead of
time. Heiskell recommends
polishing five to seven days
before the event.

DON’T: Leave the silver out in
the open. “Air tarnishes silver,
so store it in plastic or cloth
bags,” she advises.

DO: Use Wright’s Silver Cream
(about $5 at grocery stores).

“Apply it with an old, well-
worn toothbrush to clean the
filigreed areas,” she says.

DON’T: Load your silver in the
dishwasher. “I did once, and
it was ruined,” says Heiskell.
“Also, avoid using dish soaps
that contain lemon or other
citrus to clean food off your
flatware or platters.” å

Kids’ Table Idea
Give your younger
guests a special spot
to gather on Thanks-
giving. Skip the linen
tablecloth, and choose
a stain-proof outdoor
fabric like Sunbrella
that you can use for
all occasions.
