The Big
STORIES EVERYONE’S TALKING ABOUT
become pronounced and fiery. In this
realm foes hit harder. The horse-
faced samurai Mezuki, who we
encounter at the end of our demo,
becomes more aggressive in the
dark realm, and its serrated-axe
attacks can almost wipe an entire
health bar if you’re not careful.
Cute kodama still litter the levels
for you to find and guide back to
their shrines, but so too do the new
sudama. These are just as cute, but
are the corrupted dark-realm
counterparts to the kodama. They’re
not hostile, however – they simply
ask you for material possessions in
exchange for rewards. Whether
your heart is a kodama or a sudama,
you’ll find out your own truth as you
follow Nobunaga, and trample on the
yokai that stand in your path.
Follow Nobunaga into demonic battle
when Nioh 2 launches early in 2020.

ACTION HERO
It wouldn’t be Star Wars without
tie-in merch now, would it? Cal
Kestis and the Second Sister
are being turned into both action
figures and Funko Pops, and we’re
also promised a heap of T-shirts.
Cal’s force powers
make him formidable,
but is he batty enough to
take on this behemoth?
03
While we’ve seen
plenty of Cal Kestis
and BD-1 in action
so far, the latest
showcase from
Respawn
introduces us properly to Cal’s
mission throughout Star Wars Jedi:
Fallen Order. Cal’s taken in and
mentored by fellow Force-sensitive
and fugitive Jedi
Knight Cere Junda.
He then joins his
new mentor on a
journey to restore
the Jedi Order –
battling some
batty enemies
along the way.
He might be
being pursued by the Second Sister
and the rest of the Inquisition, but
escape is not Cal’s ultimate goal.
Alongside Junda, he’s looking for
“something very precious to the
Empire”, which seems to be vital in
helping to restore the Jedi to glory.
The closer Cal gets, the more ire
he’s going to draw from those who
follow the Dark Side. At one point we
hear the tell-tale muffled intake of
robotic breath as Cal enters an
ancient temple. Could Darth Vader
appear? Or is it possible that Cal has
to tackle a vision of the Sith Lord,
just like Luke Skywalker does in The
Empire Strikes Back?
Either way, there will be plenty of
Jedi combat on show. We see Cal
athletically get the drop on many a
soldier of the Empire, but also tackle
some bigger,
badder threats.
Gorgara the
Chirodactyl, “the
winged daemon
of the canyon”,
is a particular
highlight. She’s a
massive bat-like
creature who Cal
will have to fight with on both land
and air. And you will have varied
locations for fighting – a planet
selection screen shows this
adventure will have room for you to
choose how you explore it. Given the
ever-encroaching release date, we’ll
be blasting off soon enough.
AT ONE POINT
WE HEAR THE
TELL-TALE INTAKE
OF ROBOTIC
BREATH.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order comes
