When your game is
Street Fighter IV, and
regarded as one of the
best fighting games to be
put onto a disc, what do you do?
You release a free update that
features six new stages, a
different announcer, and five extra
characters: Rolento, Elena, Hugo,
Poison, and Decapre. The whole
package is then tested in the white
heat of Tokyo’s arcades. Though at
launch the PS4 version was
plagued by bugs, they have since
been fixed and Capcom and Sony
consider this definitive version.
And who are we to argue?

Tapping into a seam of
retro gold, Spelunky was
one of the first games to
adapt the roguelike
formula and deliver a challenging
but always fun journey. Don’t let
the cute pixel-art style fool you,
nor the crunch through some of
gaming’s oldest tropes – rescue
damsels, dodge traps, collect
treasure – as Spelunky is as tough
as it is rewarding. It helps that
each jaunt underground is never
the same twice – yep, they’re
procedurally generated. On PS Now
we get the enhanced PS3 edition
with local four-player split-screen
and deathmatch modes.

Never played the
old-fashioned arcade
lunacy of Earth Defense
Force? Then start here.
This remake of Earth Defense
Force 2025 adds new enemies,
upscales the graphics, stabilises
the framerate, and improves the
netcode. At its beating alien-
busting heart it remains the same
zany mix of frenzied shooting
against an alien horde. The 89
missions (with a further 98 online)
pit you against waves of monsters,
and only you and the game’s 825
weapons can save the world.

Taking its Mortal Kombat
engine, NetherRealm
Studios created this fab
fighting game spin on the
DC universe. On PS Now we get the
Ultimate Edition containing all the
DLC, including characters such as
Lobo, Batgirl, and a Jim-Lee-
designed version of Scorpion. The
joy of Injustice is discovering how
NetherRealm has captured each
famous character’s personality in
the combos and specials, and
being able to smash Superman
through a wall is always fun.

If the idea of Lego doing
Grand Theft Auto doesn’t
get your giddy bone
tingling then you’re dead
inside. Set in the open world of
Lego City, you play super cop
Chase McCain, who’s cleaning the
streets of criminals. The classic
stud-collecting gameplay of the
series mingles nicely with the open
world crime hijinks, and McCain is
no slouch. As well as wall-running
and hopping into, and building,
vehicles our hero can don
disguises to embrace new abilities
- dress as an astronaut to get
lasers and jetpacks, for instance.

Graphics have improved,
multiplayer clients have
advanced, but what will
never date in Guerrilla’s
final PlayStation 3 FPS is the
perfect weight of its world and
weaponry. Your boots feel like
bulldozers, and every weapon you
aim at Admiral Orlock’s men is like
an angry Victorian factory
spewing out broken glass, footy
hooligan songs, and jet-black
smoke. In every way that an FPS
should be, Killzone 3 is a full-frontal
assault on the senses, and has a
killer knack for spectacular
set-pieces. The game still looks
incredible, and has some of the
best action on PlayStation.
NOSTALGIC PUZZLERS

blockbusters – PS Now has
some neat retro puzzlers, too
Super Puzzle
Fighter II Turbo
HD Remix
The worlds of
Street Fighter
and DarkStalkers collide in
this gem-stacking puzzler.
It’s addictive, but best played
against a friend. As you explode
gems on your side of the screen
a Counter Gem appears on your
opponent’s; when their screen
fills you win. Chibi versions of
characters from Capcom’s
favourite fighting series battle
as you smash gems, adding to
the feel. This PS3-era HD Remix
edition upscales the visuals,
adds the Dreamcast’s game
modes, and offers more tweaks.
Fantasvision
This PS2 launch
game was the
Resogun of its day.
Starting life as a
tech demo to showcase PS2’s
lighting tech, it was turned into
this, a simple puzzler where
you have to ‘capture’ three or
more firework flares that are
fired across the screen. The
more you can link the bigger the
fireworks display, and the more
points you earn. A two-player
mode is a race to set off a
defined number of fireworks.
Graphically Fantasvision isn’t
the hero it once was, but on PS
Now we get the PS4’s emulated
version. As a blast from the
past, it’s worth firing up.
Trash Panic
An eco-friendly
puzzler that asks
you to pack and
decompose as
much rubbish as you can into a
bin before it overflows, Trash
Panic is a one of a kind. There’s
an ecosystem at play inside your
bin: igniting flammable garbage
will break it down faster, but not
near liquid containers as it’ll put
out the fire, and heavy items will
crush lighter ones. Managing
the flow of rubbish, ordering it
as it drops, as well as saving
Mottainai (precious items
discarded by mistake) is the
kind of Tetris-y fun we love.

One of the hardest titles ever to land on PS2 and a joyous return to the demon-juggling action that
made the original such a riot. Focusing on a guitar-strumming, teenage Dante, the action is fast
and oh-so-furious as the monster hunter scales a colossal tower filled with all manner of horrors.
More than anything, DMC3’s combat sings, introducing four distinct fighting styles Dante can
switch between. On PS Now we get the version from PlayStation 3’s HD Collection.
