The‘newlydeads’hired anenti re fairground
last August andhadtheir family camp outin
RVs andtents before theceremony,offering
themafullzombie makeoverwithprofessional
make-up artists. Their cake, halfred velvet and
halfalmondflavoured, was created by viral
bakingsensati onKatherineDey, andincluded
life-sized replicas ofthepair’s heads, witha
waterfall of sugary blood and recognisablefeatures suchasAric’s earringsandBriannah’s
nosepiercing. Even thoughitlooked fitto
beaHollywoodblockbusterhorror movie,
thecouple planned most ofthewedding
themselvesandspent closeto R200000.
Briannah,from theUS, jokes, “Aric was the
bridezilla –notme.Hehadalways dreamt ofa
zombie-themedwedding andonourfirst date
hegave mealist ofconditi onsfor dati ng.One
ofthemwas that we hadazombie wedding.
Iknew Iwanted somethinggothic withskulls
androses andwe bothloved TimBurton so it
evolved from there.”
Asidefrom thecake, whichitself was a
show-stopper,all250guests dressed as
zombies andhorror filmcharacters,and
while they knew the wedding would be ‘outthere’, Briannahclaimsshehadto tame her
husband’soutrageousdemandsto save their
grandparents,whohadtravelled from outof
town andwould nothave appreciatedblood
andgutseverywhere.

LittleBitOfHeaven,asongaboutamanwho
killshiswife whothen comes backfrom the
dead to murder himbefore marrying himin
theaft erlife.
“There were afew people whothought the
themewas questi onable,butwe’ve always
been thisway,” says Briannah.“Nobody was
really surprisedandeveryone inourfamilies
andourclosest friends dressed up.Everybody
was excited because itwas sodifferent.
They couldn’t wait to pickouttheiroutfits.I
bought my wedding dress offalocal selling
site for R590andAricgot hissuitoneBay
for R440,andthewedding officiant was our
friend, Cody, whogot ordained for theday
anddressed asBeetlejuice.Henow actually
performs other weddings, too, which is so
