If there’s one thing the street-style phenomenon has taught us,
it’s this—a touch of quirk is indispensable. When it comes to fi ne
jewellery, however, size has always preceded whimsy. But that’s
fast changing. Vogue profi les three women—in London, New York
and Chennai—who are putting the fun in fi ne (and bringing their girl
gangs along for the ride!). By PRIYANKA KHANNA

NECKLACES
When Jennifer Fisher tells you she
found her calling with diamond dog
tags, you know this is a design narra-
tive like no other. For the New York-
based jeweller who celebrates 10 years
in the business, it all began with the
birth of her son.

lot to have my kids. Shortly after meet-
ing my husband, I was diagnosed with
a desmoid tumour and was told it was
safer to use a surrogate. I did manage

to get pregnant and my tumour actu-
ally shrunk during pregnancy. After I
had my son Shane I wanted to wear
something to represent him but all the

diamond district to get it produced.”
2QQHZEHJLQQLQJV“I was a ward-
robe stylist and would wear the chain
on set everyday—people started com-
plimenting me. I made a piece for Uma
Thurman, who wore it on the Glamour
cover! Soon I was selling necklaces
from my bedroom.”
2QIXQMHZHOOHU\“My charm neck-
laces are the most fun pieces; you can

customise them to your personality. I
love to layer and add colour with
enamel. You can add sayings, words or
dates to our burnished word cuffs. I
also love our ear cuffs, a new trend.”

“Women are looking to express them-
selves in an original way. In every
country, the girls want our charm
necklaces, and my friends have all cre-
ated their own pieces. It’s their version
of a modern-day heirloom.”
2Q KHU MHZHOOHU\ VW\OH: “I’m going a
little more minimal. I’m wearing more
earrings these days, and fewer brace-

often, but not as much of it at once.”
