chitecture to nature.
For autumn/winter, I
went from military reg-
imental styling to La
Belle Epoque, which al-
lowed me to explore a
sense of sensual friction.
Why friction? Because
tension and contrasts
are at the heart of this collection—
tough fused with soft.

Recently, Victoria Beckham
famously proclaimed that she
was hanging up her heels. Where
do you stand in this debate?
There will always be an allure around
heels. It starts from childhood when
you step into your mother’s shoes and
instantly feel more grown-up. But all
shoes have the power to transform
both physically and emotionally... Our
woman is dynamic and leads a de-
manding life playing out many roles.

strongest memory you have?

can only visualise what shoes I was
wearing at that time. But the two that
make me the most proud—meeting
Michelle Obama at the White House
and representing the brand at the
V&A’s Pleasure And Pain shoe exhibi-
tion. But to be honest, spotting some-

’90s. How is it different now?
Earlier, it was just about the red car-
pet, but social media has expanded the
celebrity phenomenon. We are now ob-
serving their on- and off-duty style; it
shows different facets and feels more
authentic and accessible. The red
carpet is a fairy tale, a place to
dream...but seeing what a celebrity
posts during her day makes it feel
more obtainable.

So is social media where you get
your references?

more interesting, as it’s a virtual mood
board, and that’s how each collection
begins. I’m inspired by many things—
