ACROSS THE NARROW SEA
Channel your inner mermaid with shades derived from
the oceanic spectrum ofaquamarine. Val Garland at
Roksanda and Pat McGrath at Diane von Furstenberg
created eyes rimmed with shades of sea green and
pearlescent blue, almost resembling the Maldivian
seascape. Jenny Packham and Dries Van Noten took a
subtler but no less impactful approach with the colour,
using cyan as eyeliner and cerulean glitter respectively.

_______________
BLUE PERIOD
Blue didn’t stop trending this
season at the blue-green end
of the spectrum, it went on to
include darker, more intense
shades inspired bylapis lazuli. At
Jonathan Saunders, Lucia Pieroni
created blue-ringed eyes, tight-
lining upper and lower lash lines
with an electric blue pencil. In New
York, Marc Jacobs gave night birds
a new smoky eye style to play with—
sapphire blended out starting from
the inner corners of the eyes. And if
you’ve got more than Rihanna’s share
of make-up moxie, put Agrima Batra’s
blue lined brow on your must-try list.

The long-prevailing no-make-up make-
up trend has given us serious with-
drawal symptoms from the strong,
jewel-toned themes that reigned over
the past few autumn/winter seasons.
As much as we’re craving them, Jason
Wu’s amethyst eyes and Cushnie et
Ochs’s emerald smoke from autumn/
winter 2013-14 or the tourmaline
stained lips at Carolina Herrera last
season don’t really feel appropriate
here and now. But instead of stowing
away all their jewel-toned make-up, as
you and I do with our woollens, make-
up artists behind the spring/summer
2016 shows introduced us to a whole
new world of gemstones. If you’re
ready to look beyond traditional sap-
phires, rubies and emeralds, here are
the new jewel tones for the season.
Did we hear an ‘open sesame’?
