The Curator
Amanda Brooks
Owner of Cutter Brooks,
Chipping Norton, England

After carving a chic swath through
New York City’s style world—
she was creative director for Tuleh
and consulted for Chanel and
Tory Burch before rising to the
role of Barneys fashion director—
Brooks jumped across the pond for
more pastoral pursuits, choosing
to settle into a quiet and charming
English farmhouse. Since then,
she’s penned two books, including
Farm From Home (Blue Rider Press),
and enchanted Instagram followers
with shots of her bucolic life:
a newborn lamb, a favorite mare,
and perfectly imperfectly set
tables. Last year she opened Cutter
Brooks (her maiden and married
names), a shop in Stow-on-the-
Wold, so that we, too, can have
a piece of the dream. “I want to
support people who have the
courage to start businesses and
share their creativity,” says Brooks,
who blends English housewares
with patchwork jeans and Italian
smocked nightgowns. Whether
she’s gardening or off to Morocco,
the mom of two mixes it up
every day. “I love clothes too much
to have a uniform,” she says.
“I’m an American girl next door
with a bohemian streak. And
now there’s some English farmwife
thrown in.” —Melissa Ozawa

“For Thanksgiving,
I make everyone at
the table say what
they are grateful
for. At first it really
made my English
friends and family
cringe, but now
they love it.”
