Any questions
regarding your
diabetes, talk
to your health-
care team.

There’s an awful lot of
information out there about
what we should, and shouldn’t, be
eating. We know, it can get confusing.
Last issue DL dietitian and diabetes
educator Dr Kate Marsh (who also has
type 1) wrote about the keto diet – a
very low-carb approach that is gaining
in popularity. In this issue, we have a
follow-up, with a piece from exercise
physiologist, sports scientist and
diabetes educator Drew Harrisberg
(who was diagnosed with type 1
at the age of 22) about life, and
diabetes, on the keto diet – and why
he ultimately quit it. Turn to page 96
for a fascinating read.
Although you might not be taking
the keto approach, chances are you’re
watching your carbohydrate intake.
We know that’s an area of discussion
for a lot of you, so from this issue
forward, we’ll be making sure at least
50 per cent of our main meals and
lunches are ‘lower carb’. This means
they have less than 2 carb exchanges

per serve. Check out our lower-carb
Christmas recipes (page 59) to see
how delicious lower-carb eating
can be (yes, there’s pudding!). And
warmer days and nights mean you
can take it outside with our delicious
family barbecue feature (page 28).
While we do include all the nutritional
data for our food, we recommend you
seek advice from your dietitian about
the food plan that’s best for your
personal circumstances.
It’s always a good time to be
maintaining a healthy weight, so turn
to page 92 to find out more about five
healthy habits that will help you win
at weight loss. Combine that with our
Move More feature on page 122 and
you’ve got summer fitness sorted!
We’d love to hear how you’re getting
ready for summer and what you’ve
got planned for the warmer months.

Dive into

summer fun
