TO DYE FORAdd just
a touch of tie-dyed
charm to linens with this
easy ice-dye project,
left. To start, cover
your work area with a
plastic tablecloth and
have paper towels
handy to manage spills.
Thoroughly moisten
cotton lace trims, then
crumple and place them
onto a baking cooling
rack set on top of a
glass or aluminum pan
(A). Completely cover
the lace with ice cubes.
Wearing a pair of rubber
gloves, open a small
corner of a powder dye
packet and distribute it
across ice as if you’re
sprinkling salt (B).
Repeat with other colors
(we used four different
Rit dye shades). Let the
ice completely melt (C),
then use a color fixative
to rinse lace to prevent
bleeding or fading (D).
Let trim dry, press with
an iron, cut to size, and
whipstitch to the end of
a tea towel. Use a seam
sealant to keep edges
from fraying.
