FROM THE EDITOR

For me, small and thoughtful
trumps grand and fl ashy every
time. My preference grows more
pronounced as the days get cooler. Give
me a one-of-kind ornament or a pot of
paperwhites as a host gift—and get ready
for a monogrammed tea towel or a bottle of
handmade salad dressing from my favorite
restaurant in return.
Inspired by life’s simpler joys, we packed this
issue with little projects that you can do quickly
or in multiples to update your style, celebrate
the season, and make every person on your
gift-giving list smile. Start by adding sparkle
or coziness (or a bit of both) to your rooms.
We show you how to apply dramatic finishes to
everyday glass items (“Try It: Embellish Glass,”
page 6) and how to layer on lush fabrics the
easy way (“Velvet,” page 44). Make heartfelt
gifts that folks will enjoy all year using simple
cording or elaborate lace (“ What to Do with
Trim & Ribbon,” page 16), favorite sweatshirts
(“Sew Easy Pillows,” page 27), or tried-and-true
tie-dye (“Dye Job,” page 86). When you’re done,
curl up with a cup of coffee or tea served from
our adorable beverage bar (“Coffee Break,” page
66 ). Cheers!
