Alison’s cabin
innovating took a
logistical turn when
she reimagined
the former master
bedroom as a bunk
room, left, for her two
sons and the family’s
frequent houseguests.
“This room was
originally set up with
a full-size bed,” she
says. “The minute I
walked in, I knew that
we could fit more
people comfortably
with bunks and a

From the vinyl tile
floors to the freshly
painted ceiling,
no surface went
untouched. But her
prized project is the
board-and-batten
paneling. Modeled
after the home’s
exterior siding, she
crafted it over a
weekend using pine
boards and a miter
saw. The woodsy
green paint was
left over from the
kitchen cabinets.
