of others. In November 2018, VMware and
AWS delivered VMware Cloud on AWS,
bringing VMware’s Software-Defi ned Data
Center to Amazon’s public-cloud offering.
Beyond helping customers migrate
applications to the public cloud, VMware
makes it easier to modernize them by
leveraging Kubernetes, an open-source
container-orchestration system for auto-
mating the deployment and management of
apps. “Containers will revolutionize the way
applications are built, and we want to play
a meaningful role by helping our customers
build, run, and manage modern applica-
tions,” says Sanjay Poonen, COO, customer
operations.
VMware has forged Kubernetes-related
partnerships and has been a major con-
tributor to the technology itself. Earlier this
year, the company unveiled VMware Tanzu,
a portfolio of products and services de-
signed to help organizations build software
on Kubernetes.
VMware also announced its secu-
rity vision for the industry—one that ties
networks, endpoints, identity, clouds, and
analytics into a comprehensive “intrinsic
security” architecture to help shift the ad-
vantage from hackers and bad actors back
to the good guys.
“This is the new VMware,” says Poonen.
“These updates to our strategy will lead to
further growth and drive digital transforma-
tion for our customers.”
These efforts are being recognized by
Fortune, which has named VMware to its
Future 50 list, an honor Poonen says is a
tribute to the hard work and dedication of
the company’s employees.
“We have an incredible culture that

big part of that culture is true collaboration
among all of VMware’s teams, so the com-
pany can get things done effi ciently and
