at Sixième Bistro, which is
co-owned by local musician
Sergio Carnevale and Nic Cester,
frontman of Australian rock
band Jet, though the interiors
are deliberately understated.

traditional atmosphere because
this city can go a bit over the top,”

Milan and Como since leaving
Melbourne in 2010.
A handful of tables are set in
the courtyard, which is filled with
climbing tropical plants. Inside,
the kitchen is on full display
behind steel-framed windows,
and the bistro’s neutral palette
of natural materials – timber,
brick and marble – is illuminated
by Isamu Noguchi lamps.
