temple offered him the temple’s
cat. To the samurai, this cat
looked to be the dullest, most
commonplace feline he had ever
seen. He had little hope it would
help and was reluctant to accept it
into his home, but the monk insisted.
On the temple cat’s first day in
the samurai’s home, it did nothing
but nap. On the second day, the
rat made a game of pacing back


and forth in front of the cat. The
samurai began to wonder if the cat
was even aware of the rat’s presence.
It gave the impression it didn’t notice
the rat and continued to snooze all
day. In fact, as far as the samurai
could tell, the only time the cat
would stretch its legs was when the
rat grew weary and took a nap
behind the kitchen wall, snoring
loudly.

And what a pie. I’m stuffed. Urp. I gotta walk it off.
