Thecouplewerealreadylivingintheareaina
modernhouse.‘Butasourfamilystartedtogrowand
Rob’scareertookoff,wedecidedwewantedmore
spaceandforthekidstogrowupina ruralsetting,’
saysHelen.‘I’dalwaysreallywantedtodoup
anolderproperty,especiallyafterhavingpreviously
refurbishedtwonewbuilds,sowhenRobspotted
thebarnforsale,weviewedit and,tobehonest,the
momentwesawit weimaginedenjoyingcosynights
inwiththechildrenandyearsofmemorymaking.
Plus,ona practicallevel,it allowedustoremain
closetoourfamily,friendsandgoodschools.’
Althoughoriginallyconvertedin1999,therewas,
asis oftenthecase,moretodototheplacethanthe
coupleanticipated,soalthoughit wasnottheiroriginal
intention,theyendedupcompletelyrenovatingthe
barn from top to bottom. This included replastering,
