Basic Drawing Made Amazingly Easy (Made Amazingly Easy Series)

When two sides of an object are as clearly defined as they are here,
one side will generally be shaded either darker or lighter than the
other side. That’s because light will hit one side at a different angle
than it hits the other.

This chair has a nice sweep to it, which is the essence of line flow.
Line flow is the aesthetic use of a line that guides the viewer’s eye
along a winding path. In this case, the eye follows the line of the
armrest around the chair without an abrupt shift in angle.
Notice that one corner of the chair (the nearest leg) is facing the
viewer, so we know the chair is in two-point perspective.

  1. Horizon line

  2. If we don’t see an obvious vanishing line, we impose one. Where
the two chair legs touch the ground, we draw a vanishing line. The
two decorative spheres on top of them can similarly serve as a
    second set of vanishing lines.
