Basic Drawing Made Amazingly Easy (Made Amazingly Easy Series)

Exaggeration. The sailboat in the foreground is increased in size and
appears to be coming at the viewer, thus involving the viewer in the
scene.

Placement. The boats are arranged rhythmically, which is more
pleasing than placing them randomly.

Depth. By drawing the boats at different sizes and placing them at
different distances from one another and the horizon, we give the
scene depth.

Horizon line. We’ve underscored the feeling of serenity by
emphasizing horizontal lines, as opposed to diagonal lines. The horizon
line, the line of the clouds, and the direction of the sailboats are all
horizontal.
