The workers and volunteers who support
the living museum have, on many
occasions experienced “odd things,” while
going through their day to day activities.
The ships historian has told many people
about one of her experiences while sitting
at her desk. As she was looking down
at her computer keyboard something
caught her attention from the corner
of her eye. Glancing up, she sees a fully
defined shadow walking across her open
office area. This shadow continued into a
hallway, where it disappeared.
While the ship’s electrician was working
on a project on a lower deck of the carrier,
he also saw what he described as a
shadow man. This shadow walked right
in front of him, turned away from his
direction and disappeared through what
he thought at the time was a doorway.
Once he did a double take with regards to
what he had just experienced, he realized
that the shadow not only disappeared
in front of him, it disappeared through a
steel wall, not an actual door.
More ghostly activity within the walls of
the Blue Ghost happened in what is called
the mess hall. A couple on a self-guided
walking tour of the ship was in the mess
area when an officer in what is described
as full-dress uniform approached them.
The Navy man got in the gentleman’s face
and yell at him for wearing a baseball cap.
The man quickly removed his cap and
turned to look at his female companion,
who became as freaked out as he was.
He turned back to question the officer,
but nobody was there. They’re the only
explanation for what they experienced
was paranormal.
There are also numerous EVP’s that
were captured by the many visitors and
investigators over the years. A lot of them
are general answers to the questions
that were asked, but others are far more
meaningful.
For the last eight years, seasoned
ghost hunters, Brad and Barry
Klinge (from TV’s Ghost Lab),
have been hosting a charity
public paranormal investigation
on the Lexington. During these
investigations as well as during
their shows episode “The Blue
Ghost” (S1E12), some very
desperate Electronic Voice
Phenomenon had been captured.
Specifically, the ships engine room
has what seems to be a very horrifying
recording that answered questions from
investigators that I feel compelled to
share.
A very impressive string of EVP’s starts
like this...in the engine room, Brad states
with a firm deep voice, “This is your
commanding officer, Get Up Here Right
Now”!
Both Barry and Brad hear something, but
they can’t make out exactly what it is.
Brad then orders “Stop toying with us,
sailor. Get Out Here!”
Again, they hear something. “Is that you
talking?”
They both now hear whistling! “Are you
whistling?”
Intrigued and wanting to track down what
they are hearing, they both climb to the
level just above the engine room. The
brothers both ask, “Hello?”
Now they hear noises from the engine
room below them. They again hear a
substantial “Thud” from below and race
to get back down the ladder to see what it
was. Once again in the engine room, they
challenge whatever is down there with
them to show itself, but to no avail.
They regroup in the mobile “Ghost Lab” to
go over the evidence from the session and
find something!
The first EVP they capture says, “Shoot
the Plane!” Could this be relating to the
kamikaze that struck the bridge and killed
numerous sailors and injured even more.
The second EVP from the engine room
says just one word, but it is a very
significant word, “Help.”
The final EVP says it all, “I’m burning
inside the Lexington.”
There isn’t anything more that needs to
be said about the tremendous activity
that the USS Lexington still holds within
its steel walls. I am looking forward to
investigating this beautiful piece of
history again. If you have an opportunity
to investigate it, jump at the chance. I
highly doubt you will be disappointed.
