(^22) Winter 2019
Sewing Instructions

  1. Position the Nativity and star on the 8½" x 12½" navy
print background and pin or glue in place. Take care to
leave ¼" seam allowance around the perimeter of the
appliqué unit to keep the wool from being caught in the
    seam.
    2. Using the DMC Ecru size 5 perle cotton, blanket stitch
the Nativity and star in place.
    3. Iron the Pellon SF101 woven fusible to the back of the
    3½" x 12½" navy print embroidery background.

  2. Trace the words to this background. The Bohin
mechanical pencil with white lead works great for this.

A how to video for the Palestrina stitch can be
found at needlenthread.com. Click on how-to,
then on the oval, “Embroidery by Name from
A-Z,” then on P and you will find Palestrina
stitch at the top of the list. It’s a very fun and
easy stitch giving great dimension to your
project. You will not need a hoop.

Tip

  1. Embroider the words using the Valdani Ecru size 12
perle cotton and the Palestrina stitch.

  2. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the
wrong side of 64—1¼" creamy/white print squares.
