Sewing Instructions

  1. Prepare the 16¼" x 46½" toweling by hemming under
½" on each end. The sides are already hemmed.
    2. Referring to the table runner photo as a guide,
position the sleigh and runner, gifts, toy bag, reindeer
with halters, stars and moon in place then affix using
your favorite method. Repeat with trees and houses,
doors and windows so all is prepared for stitching.
    3. Using threads to coordinate with the wool, appliqué
each element in place with a blanket stitch or whip stitch.

  2. Add smoke coming from the chimneys using black

thread, a stem stitch and a lazy S design.

  1. Sew the mini buttons in place for door handles and
use the micro buttons for reindeer eyes.

  2. Sew the white snowflake buttons into place on
Santa’s sleigh then secure two mini jingle bells to each
    reindeer’s halter.

  3. With black thread, create reins by starting at the sleigh,
leaving long unattached pieces of thread, draping them
along over the reindeer, looping the thread around the
    jingle bell as you go.

  4. When you get to Rudolph, thread the needle and pull
the thread to the back and secure it with a small knot.
Repeat to make a total of 2 reins.

  5. When you are happy with the look, apply a very small
amount of fabric glue in inconspicuous spots to hold
the thread securely in place. Let the glue dry completely
before moving to the next step.

  6. Using dark green thread, create a bow and stitch

or glue into place on the toy bag in the sleigh. Leave
enough thread to allow the ends to appear to be
blowing in the breeze. Tack in place with a very small
amount of fabric glue. Allow the glue to dry before
moving your project.

Double Prairie Points

  1. With right sides together, layer a 2" x 3½" toweling
rectangle on top of a 2" x 3½" red print rectangle then
sew together along the long edge. Press toward the red.
(This is a critical step to achieve the look of the double
    prairie point.)
    2. With wrong sides together, fold the rectangle unit in
half, leaving about^1 / 8 " of the toweling showing at the top
    then press.
    3. Flip the rectangle unit over so only the red shows.
Fold the unit in half to find the center then finger press.

  2. Fold the right side over to the center point and pin in
place. (The^1 / 8 " of toweling will show down the center of
    the unit.)
    5. Fold the left side to the center point and pin in place.
Baste across the bottom to hold the folds in place then press.
    6. Repeat Steps 1-5 to make a total of 16 double prairie
    points which measure 1¾" x 3½."

Completing the Table Runner

  1. Position eight prairie points evenly across the back side
of one end of the runner and pin or baste them in place.
    2. Repeat Step 1 at the other end of the runner.
    3. Hem under ½" on each end of the toweling backing.
Pin in place with wrong sides together and prairie points
    pointing out from each end.

  2. Sew together along the long sides of the table runner.
    5. Sew together along the short sides with the prairie
points sandwiched between and pointing out. If the
thickness of the two hemmed toweling strips with the
prairie points between is too thick for your sewing
machine, hand stitch the ends closed.
