Isle of Eigg, Scotland
While hiking across the beautiful
Hebridean island of Eigg, I met Chris,
one of only 90 or so people who live
here. Several years ago, he fell in love
with the island and moved here from
Cambridge in pursuit of a quiet life.
Overlooking an islet by the main pier,
his home sits beside a path frequented
by walkers. He oten sells home-grown
produce — eggs, strawberries, root
vegetables — as a way of earning his
keep, but there’s sometimes a shot of
whisky on ofer, too. My encounter
with Chris and his dog Ted let me
wondering what it is about a place that
draws you in and makes you want to
change your lifestyle forever.
