in September of 1948, chaos ruled in
Pakistan when Jinnah died. In fact,
chaos ruled from the beginning of
independence, as Muslims in all parts
of India began heading for Pakistan,
with the mass migration spurred along
by violence among the major and
minor religious groups that make up
India.
This is of course a very sketchy
picture of an extremely complicated
period in the history of that region and,
for all we know, if India had remained
a single country, something the British
had hoped for and Mountbatten had
promoted, the situation would have
been much the same. If we take a look at
some of the accounts of the agreement
itself, the whole thing looks like a

working out a peaceful independence
agreement with King George III
specifying that each state, county, and
town of a certain size would have the
option of deciding which other states,
counties, or towns it would align with
or split apart from.
Getting back to Indian independence
as well as back to the planets, given

rules and regulations and specifications
on the one side, and the Neptunian
mélange of religious, political, and
ethnic viewpoints prevailing on the
