QPrepareyourmachinebeforeyousew
bychangingtheneedle– giveit a good
dust,removeanylintandadda hint
of machineoiltoanymovingmetal
parts.Changingyourneedlewillmake
a hugedierencetoyoursewing.
QBobbinwindingis soveryimportant
too.If it is notwoundevenly,your
stitches will be uneven. So, if in doubt,

checkyourmachinemanualand
alwayswind a fresh bobbin before you
start.

Usingfusiblewebbing
Mandyalwaysusesa fusiblewebbing
forherappliquéandherfavouriteis the
cheapest,JomilFuse-a-webLite,which
shesellsonherwebsite.Asa general
rule, you should only buy small amounts

of fusiblewebbingandit shouldalways
bestoredina dryenvironment.Oncethe
gluesheethascomeoof thebacking
fabric, it’s impossible to use.

Toappliquéwitha fusiblewebbing,
firsttracetheshapeontothesmooth
sideof yourfusiblewebbing.Cutthe
shape out roughly, not on the line.

Ironthefusiblewebbingwiththe
drawnshapeontothewrongsideof
yourchosenfabric.Thesmoothsideof
theironwillgotothesmoothsideof the
webbing.Theroughsidewillbefacing
thefabric...it’sat thisstagethatit’svery
easytogluethe shape to the iron, so do
be careful!

Cutouttheshapeaccuratelyonthe
line. Peel o the backing paper.

Positiontheshapeontothe
background and iron it in place.

andmakea densestitch,youwillnot
beabletostitchsmallershapesorgo
aroundcorners,andyoucertainlywill
notbeableto use wool and thicker
threads.
