ifferent fabrics can have a huge impact on
how we feel in our clothes, whether that’s a
swoosh of material giving us confidence, or
soft, buttery fabric providing comfort.
For Cornish clothing brand Seasalt, fabrics
are where their designs begin. The drape, the texture;
finding the right balance for each piece of clothing is one
of the most important parts of creating a collection.
Their autumn pieces have looked to the patterns and
textures of the loom, drawing on the craft of the woven
cloth. Considered as the ‘mother of English hand weaving’,
Ethel Mairet is the main inspiration for their collection. A key
member of the Arts and Crafts movement in the 1920s, Ethel
created her gorgeous patterns with a particular focus on
elements of the natural world.
The new collection features the flowers and leaves Ethel
used in her work, alongside vibrant geometric prints inspired
by more modern hand-woven designs. Appearing across
dresses, tops and cardigans, they are accompanied by
pared-down wardrobe staples in soft grey and blue tones,
allowing the fabrics to stand out in their celebration of the
creativity and the process that inspired them.
