If there’s one kitchen staple
you should make instead of buy,
it’s...salad dressing. But if you’re
ready to DIY two food items, try
your hand at nut butter, which is
leaps and bounds more delicious
than the store-bought alternative
and infinitely tweakable. Making
a batch is as simple as hauling
out your food processor.

Start with 2 cups of fully
cooled toasted nuts—any type!
Throw them into a food processor
and grind until finely chopped.

Scrape down the sides of the
bowl, then continue to process
until the mixture is as creamy
or chunky as you’d like it.

If you’re aiming for a silky-
smooth spread, add a splash of
neutral oil, which will help
achieve that texture. Season with
salt and sweeteners or spices of
your choice, such as honey, cocoa
powder, cinnamon, or cayenne.
