“PHOTOGRAPHY IS A NEVER-ENDING JOURNEY
AND I LOVE THE THRILL OF CHASING
THE PERFECT SHOT AND DREAM LANDSCAPE.”
What’s the best photo you’ve taken?
I like to think my best photo is yet to
come. Photography is a never-ending
journey and I love the thrill of chasing
the perfect shot and dream landscape.
You’ve spent time shooting for
Olympus – how was that?
It has changed the way I work. With
the lightweight gear, I can carry more
lenses to change up perspectives and
pack my underwater housing when
hiking. The OM-D E-M1 Mark II’s ability
to handle extreme conditions makes it
a great companion for the outdoors.
You shoot great underwater photos
- how do you achieve such accuracy?
One of the things I love most about
shooting in the water is that the
final result is usually left up to the
elements. You can line everything up,
ensure you have the correct settings
and composition, then a wave comes
along and creates the touch of magic.
What are your top three locations
to photograph and why?
I’ve fallen for arctic destinations
such as Norway’s Lofoten Islands
and Swedish Lapland as well as
Iceland. It’s like stepping into a giant
photogenic snow globe with wild
conditions and dancing skies of
aurora in the evenings.
What’s the key to the perfect shot?
Creative composition helps your
work to stand out and showcase
your unique view of the world.
What’s next for Lisa Michele Burns
and The Wandering Lens?
In the coming months I’ll publish
a number of photography location
guides to places in Japan, France
and Australia on my website, The
Wandering Lens, plus I’m developing
photo tours and workshops to
Iceland, New Zealand and hopefully a
lot more locally around Australia, too.
What’s your favourite feature on
the OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera?
I’ve got quite a few but it has to be a tie
between the tough exterior that can perform
in below-freezing conditions and withstand a
decent amount of rain and snow. Then there’s
the live-composition feature, making star trails
and light movement a breeze to capture.
