Steps 14a & b.Take the pointy end of the dresden tool 14a 14b

and run along the inside of the top of the
cake to give definition and create rings and
splinters in the wood. Press into the icing
with tools to create depth. There is no
right or wrong way to create these lines.

Step 15.
Draw vertical lines in patterns along
the side of the cake and create ridges
and uneven marks by playing with the
pressure you apply to the dresden tool.
Place on an iced baseboard and put aside.

Steps 16a-c.
Mask off work surfaces so you don’t get
too much overspray. Take the matt yellow
and spray in a large circular motion around
the front of the top tier. Leave the middle
lighter. Work around and spray the whole
cake in yellow. Build up in layers and leave
to dry. Add orange matt to the bottom
tier to give an ombré look then to the
top. Finally, take green matt and spray the
bottom of the cake taking care to go slow
and turn the cake as you spray.

Steps 17a-e.
For the tree trunk, start with the water
based yellow and lightly coat the whole
area. Use the brown to go over the cake
adding darker areas to the top ridges,
bottom area and in the grooves. Spray
the board to match. Continue to build
colour adding green and black to the
trunk. Take a piece of kitchen towel and
dab off some of the colours sprayed to
create more texture and tone aging the
trunk. Airbrush a final thin layer of brown
over the trunk, dowel and place the
yellow cake on top.

Step 18.
Take the floral hoop and cover with
brown sugarpaste. Pinch to seal and
smooth off any joins. For a more rustic
look, keep quite knobbly.

Step 19.
Add a tiny amount of water to the back of
the hoop and place onto the front of the
top tier. Hold in place for 5-10 seconds to
ensure it doesn’t fall off.

Step 20.
Wet the hoop with a little water so it
is tacky but not dripping. Now take the
leaves and place onto the hoop varying
the colours as you go. Add some to the
back of the hoop to fill out more. Use a
brush to hold any loose areas in place
but be careful not to use too much water
otherwise the leaves will disintegrate.

Step 21.
For the squirrel, take 500g of white and
50g of black paste and knead until a nice
uniform grey. Roll 35g into a ball and
