HOW MANY pairs of jeans do you
really need? To answer this question, take
your cue from Gigi Hadid, a girl who
loves wearing the staple so much, she
made “denim and boots” the dress code
for her star-studded 24 th-birthday party.
At the April celebration, friends and fam-
ily of the supermodel, including Hel-
ena Christensen, Ashley Graham, and
Bella Hadid, danced the night away
in their trusty blues at New York hot
spot Le Chalet. Gigi herself sported
the brand’s iconic STRAIGHT LEG
501 s—the ur jeans style that dates
to 1873 —customized with a
“24” patch on the right leg.
Hadid has worn jeans at least
47 other times in the past
year (yes, I counted), and
while I won’t recommend
that you invest in that many
pairs, the styles she wears are
a fail-safe guide to the next
trending silhouettes and labels.
“Denim is the foundation of
any great wardrobe,” says Roopal
Patel, fashion director at Saks Fifth
Avenue. “For fall, a straight leg, a
boot-cut, and a wide leg are musts. The
’ 70 s trend we’re seeing is only going
to get stronger.” BOOT-CUT styles are a
perfect way to dive into the retro look.
Case in point: the cropped Re/Done
jeans remade from vintage Levi’s that
Hadid wore to a summer party with
an off-the-shoulder top and Jacquemus
wrap pumps. Re/Done’s boot-cut
jeans look as amazing with boots
as they do with ankle-baring heels. And
now the brand is introducing foot-
wear, inspired by vintage cavalry boots.
Another shortcut to a long and lean silhouette
are Off-White’sbrand’s designer, Virgil Abloh.You’re also going to want a pair of
OVERSIZE jeans from Danielle Guizio,
another designer who recuts vintage
Levi’s. The New York label has taken
the It-girl world by storm: Hadid was
photographed in Guizio’s signature
style with soft rips at the knees eight
times this year. Sister Bella is also a fan, as
are Emily Ratajkowski and Kendall and
Kylie Jenner. But until this fall, it was
a bespoke offering. “A woman in an
oversize blazer and baggy jeans sig-
nifies that she is powerful enough
to dress in silhouettes that are
not exclusive to one gender,”
Guizio says of the Vivienne
Westwood blazer and Prabal
Gurung rock the vote tee
that Gigi teamed hers with
last November. “To me,
that’s extremely refreshing.”
For ultimate versatility, try a
WINTER WHITE jean. L.A. cool-
girl brand Aya Muse reworks vin-
tage Levi’s by adding center seams
to give them more of a suit-pant
style. They look great with a men’s
crewneck with rolled-up sleeves and
oxford shoes, or a belted blazer and
kitten heels. BLACK jeans are another
good option. Hadid has worn a loose
high-rise pair from Re/Done on no
fewer than three occasions, often with
block heels for a dressier feel.
