INSIGHT

personality whom I’d like to capture
in a drawing.
Throughout my schooling years I
was chosen to attend art workshops
and programs, but one of the greatest
opportunities was being selected
to attend the National Art School’s
Intensive Studio Workshop High
School Certificate program in 2007. I
chose to do a painting workshop and
loved the teaching style and especially
the atmosphere and surrounding of the
school, which is the old Darling Hurst
Gaol. I knew straight away it was


where I wanted to do my Fine Arts
Degree after high school.
Like most artists I have an interest
in emotions, the surreal and mortality,
and find it extremely intriguing. I use
my artwork to express my emotions
quite often and my personal pieces are
very visually different to my realist
portraiture. When given the chance
to create a body of work for my High
School Certificate in 2008, I had
already had the concept mapped out. I
created a triptych mixed media piece,
accompanied my several drawings all

titled “Separation Anxiety,” about my
parents’ divorce as a child. I love to
create and portray symbolism in my
personal bodies of works and in this
work I did just that. I did things like
ripping the canvas it back up loosely
with ribbon or holding it back together
with safety pins, conveying the
thoughts of trying to unsuccessfully
repair something that is damaged.
In 2008 I applied to do a Bachelor
Of Fine Arts at The National Art
School in Darlinghurst, Sydney and
was accepted, so in 2009 and began
