whom she was married for more

beautiful granddaughters Elizabeth, Alison,

be closer to their children and grandchildren,
the Cohens lived in Richmond,VA.Originally
from the small town ofFranklin NJ,Eleanor was
ahomemaker and airline employee.She was

her husband, and after his passing in 2013, she
founded theTuesdayTootsies,asocial group
for widows which has grown to 25 current
members.She loved her family and friends
more than anything and in return, she was
loved and admired by everyone who knew her.

LeonardVernon McCoy passed away on
September 13, 2019, inPalm Harbor,Florida
at the age of 92. Born in the farming com-
munity in Mason City,Illinois,onMay 2,
1927, he wasamedical corpsman in the
Navy at the close ofWorldWarII, served
briefly at the National Security Agency
and found his career with the Central
Intelligence Agency.Mr.McCoy attained
seniorrank in the CIA Directorate of Oper-
ations distinguishing himself both in the
intelligence dissemination and counterin-
telligence fields.Hespent over 60 years
with the CIA, first asastaff officer,later
as an independent contractor.Mr. McCoy
served inKorea andJapan during the early
years and completed his service in Ger-
many.Hewasagraduate of the Ohio State
University and an adept linguist inFrench,
Flemish, German, Russian and Dutch. Mr.
McCoy is survived by his loving wifeFaith,
daughter Carson and son Leonard Cave.
He had three daughters,Lucy,Barbaraand
Alice,fromaprevious marriage that ended

West and Michigan.) She always hadasmile
on her face,loved to tell stories and enjoyed
laughing with friends and family.

comed her to all of their special occasions over

John Marshall Andrews,86, died September
10, 2019. He was born in Alexandria Virginia
on October 4, 1932, to Thomas H. Andrews,
Sr., and Gladys (Thompson) Andrews,both
deceased. An engineer by talent and training,
John graduated from VirginiaTech. He joined
his father and brother in the construction
business following his service in theU.S.Army,
and spent much of his career in marine con-
struction. He wasalicensed tug boat captain
&crane operator,and helped build the Belle
Haven Marina. He took over the Marina's
ownership and managed it for many years after
his father's passing.Recently he participated
in the reconstruction of theWoodrow Wilson
Bridge,having also worked to build the original.
He knew the history of ‘New Alexandria’ well,
and shared his knowledge with all. He leaves
behind many dear friends.
In addition to his parents,John was pre-
deceased by his wife,Gertrude Whitaker
Andrews; his brother,Thomas H. Andrews
Jr.; and his sister-in-law,Mary Lou Andrews.
He is survived by step-daughter,Diana Philips
of Chicago,IL; and step-son, Robert Shell of
Houston, TX; his nieces,Mary Ellen Andrews-
Kulis (Michael) of Elon, NC,and Kathryn

Norby Karen Gasho went to be with her Lord
and Savior onFriday,August 9, 2019 at her
home in McLean, Virginia aftera30-year battle
with carcinoid cancer,along with breast cancer
and kidney disease.Norby was born on Decem-
ber 23, 1944 inTucson, Arizona to June and
David Rea. She received her bachelor’sdegree
from Oregon State University in 1966 and
received her master’sdegree from Oregon
Stateafew years later.Norby taught 4th–6th
grade in Oregon and the Sacramento,California
area for 10 years.She married LawrenceP.
Gasho in 1976 in Reno,Nevada. The family
moved to Rochester,NewYork in 1981 and
then relocated to the northern Virginia area
in 1985. Shortly after moving to the area,
the Gasho’sfound their church home atFalls
Church Anglican where Norby was an active
member for more than 30 years.Norby led the
intercessory prayer ministry and participated
with prayer at therail foranumber of years.
Norby was active in the McLeanWomen’sBible
Study for over 30 years and served as an
administrative leader for some time.She was
also an active member of the Capital Area
Carcinoid Survivors support group.Norby was
adevout woman of faith who deeply loved her
family and friends.She was always one to lend
an ear and would try and help others in any
way that she could.
Norby is survived by LawrenceP.Gasho,her
loving husband of over 43 years; her daughter
AnneN.Krohn and her son-in-law JohnD.
Krohn of Arlington, Virginia. She is survived by
her five siblings,brothers David (Carol) Rea of
Edmonds,Washington and Michael Milhaupt

mathematics in 1958. She taught mathematics
in Norfolk, Virginia and married then naval
officer Ronald Bruce Natalie on August 22,
1958.
Betty had four children, RonaldB.Natalie,Jr. ,
Karen Lorraine Natalie,Donna Leslie Natalie,
and JohnFrancis Natalie.Sheraised her four
boisterous children with patience,intelligence,
discipline and humility.
When her children reached their teens,Betty
enrolled in law school, graduating in 1979 from
the Catholic University Columbus School of
Law.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ron, their
four children, Ron, Karen (Walker), Donna (Lee),
and John; her sister,Lorraine Goneau; 10 grand-
children, (Ian, Leigh, Natalie,Nancy,Suzanne,
Nick, Christina,Jason, Luke and Ceci) and
three great-grandchildren, (Ryan, Everly,and
Andrew). She was adored asawife,Mom,
Grandma, and great-grandmother by them and
will be missed more than words can express.

Mary Elizabeth Levari Pilipchuk of Vienna,VA,
passed away Saturday,September 14, 2019,
at the age of 81. She is survived by her son,
John Pilipchuk, and wife,Johnna; her daughter,
LauraPilipchuk Moore,and husband Michael;
and two grandchildren, Brendan and Marissa
Moore.Mary was preceded in death by her
husband of 59 years,Andrew Pilipchuk; her
daughter,Ellen Pilipchuk; and her son Andrew
Pilipchuk, Jr.who died at birth.
OnFriday September 20, 2019,avisitation will
be held from6to8p.m. at Money and King
Funeral Home in Vienna,VA.Funeral Mass will
be celebrated on Saturday,September 21 at
11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic

DEATH NOTICE

GEORGE N. POLIS (Age 90)
Of Bethesda, MD passed away peacefully
on September 16, 2019. Dr.Polis graduated
from Roosevelt High School, Georgetown
University,and University of Maryland Med-
ical School. He served his country in the
U.S.Navy asalieutenant. He was in private
practice for 53 years,and worked for the
FBI, CIA, and State Department. Dr.Polis
also served as the medical director at
Ingleside at Rock Creek Nursing Home,
assistant medical director at Knollwood
Nursing Home,and on the medical staff
at Sibley Hospital for 25 years as Chief of
the Division of General Internal Medicine,
earning the honorable Sibley ChairAward.
He met his wife,Angela, and they were
married in 1961. They had four wonderful
children, NicholasG.Polis,M.D.(Ruth),
KarenG.Polis,Esq., LGSW,JohnG.Polis
(Stephanie), andJamesG.Polis (Suzanne).
Dr.Polisleaveseightgrandchildren,one
great-grandson, and many nieces,
nephews,and God-children. Everlasting be
his memory.Avisitation will take place on
Friday September 20, 2019 at Saint Sophia
Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2815 36th St
NW,Washington, DC 20007 from 10 to
11 a.m., withafuneral service to follow.
Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

STEPHEN EUGENE SCHWARTZ "Steve"
Stephen "Steve" Eugene Schwartz, 77, of St.
James,NC,and formerly of Annandale,VA
passed away on September 9, 2019. Steve was
born on September 24, 1941, in NewYork City,
NY,the son of Norman and Helen Schwartz.
Steve worked asaMortgage Banker for 38
years,devoting his career to supporting federal
law enforcement agents and their families
with home financing needs.Through his work
with federal law enforcement, Steve became
apassionate and active supporter of many
charitable organizations withafocus on chil-
dren and fallen law enforcement officers and
their families.Due to his passion and com-
mitment to the United States Secret Service,
Steve was named an honorary member of the
Association ofFormer Agents of the United
States Secret Service (AFUSSS). Steve served
in the Air National Guard Reserves from 1961
to 1969
Steve followed his heart, not rules.His zeal
and love for life was large,earning him the
well-deserved moniker,“The Big Guy” given to
him by his friends.
His love for life was only outweighed by his love
for his family.Steve is survived by his beloved
wife,Patricia (Tishie) Schwartz; his son, William
(Billy) Schwartz, daughter-in-law,Lindsey; his
adorned grandson, Stephen, and is missed by
his loyal, loving dogs,Lola and Bear.

Phyllis GrossmanWest passed
away on Sunday,September 15,
2019, surrounded by her hus-
band and loving family after
struggling for over four years
fromastroke.
Beloved wife of RonWest and devoted
mother of IleneWest Gordon (Marc Bassin)
and EricWest (Natalie), loving sister ofLynn
Grossman Getoff (Peter), BarbaraChizever
(Cal, both predeceased),Janet Aaronson
(Eddie),KenWest (Carol), and cherished
grandmother of Andrew Gordon (Nora),
Nicholas Gordon, NoaWest, PhoebeWest
and EliWest. Loving aunt to Karen Askin,
Lisa Gallant (Joe Raeder), Ron Gallant (Deb-
bie), Carol McDowell Schrager (Richard),
Emily Getoff,Karen Monsein (Douglas),
Jackie Aaronson (predeceased), JoshWest
(Whitney), and Lisa Rosenberg (David) and
many great-nieces and nephews.
Phyllis is also survived by her many very
close friends who are also considered fam-
ily.The strongest and bravest woman we
knew,she was alsoapolitical liberal who
recognized and fought gender inequality
shortly after graduating from college.She
helped re-write the Maryland Rape Law and
then becamealobbyist for the National
Organization forWomen. After that, she
becameasuccessful real estate agent.
She was very involved in the community,
serving on the Board of Directors atWash-
ington Hebrew Congregation. She also
served asavolunteer at the US Holocaust
Museum.
Funeral services will be held onTuesday,
September 17 at 11 a.m. atWashington
Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb
Street,Washington, DC 20016. Interment
will follow at Garden of Remembrance
MemorialPark, Clarksburg, MD.
Following services,the family will be receiv-
ing family and friends for shiva at the
home of Natalie and EricWest onTuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday at 7p.m.
