48 AMERICAN SPY
OFFICER, THE FRENCH COMMANDER OF U.N. FORCES, GEN. BERNARD
JANVIER, MADE A SECRET AGREEMENT WITH GEN. MLADIC TO STOP
NATO AIR STRIKES AGAINST THE SERBS, IN EXCHANGE FOR SERB
RELEASE OF U.N. PEACEKEEPER HOSTAGES. BY 13 JULY, THE BSA
HAD KILLED OR “ETHNICALLY CLEANSED” APPROXIMATELY 50,000
REFUGEES FROM SREBRENICA AND NEARBY POTOCARI.
- ON 12 JULY, GEN. MLADIC ENTERED SREBRENICA AND
POTOCARI AS BSA FORCES SEIZED CONTROL OF THE ENCLAVE.
ACCOMPANIED BY A TV CREW, HE ADDRESSED A GROUP OF PANICKY
MUSLIM REFUGEES. SWAGGERING IN FRONT OF THE CAMERAS,
MLADIC PATTED A YOUNG BOY ON THE HEAD AND ASSURED THE
CROWD, “DO NOT BE AFRAID, NO ONE WILL DO YOU ANY HARM.”
AFTER THE CAMERAS WERE TURNED OFF, MLADIC PERSONALLY
OVERSAW THE ENSUING HORROR. A COMMON THREAD THROUGHOUT
THE SO-CALLED ETHNIC CLEANSING OPERATION WAS GEN. MLAD-
IC’S SOOTHING WORDS TO THE REFUGEES JUST PRIOR TO BSA
COMMISSION OF ATROCITIES AND/OR EXECUTIONS.
- MLADIC DIRECTED THE NAZI-LIKE SELECTION PROCESS
THAT BEGAN ON 12 JULY. SERB SOLDIERS SEPARATED MEN AND
BOYS FROM WOMEN AND CHILDREN, WHILE U.N. SOLDIERS WATCHED.
THE SELECTION PROCESS WAS CARRIED OUT IN ALMOST COMPLETE
SILENCE, SAVE FOR THE OCCASIONAL SHOUTS OF BSA SOLDIERS
ORDERING MEN AND BOYS OUT OF THE LINES THEY HAD BEEN
FORCED TO STAND IN. BSA TRANSPORTED REFUGEES IN BUSES
AND TRUCKS TO THE FRONT LINES, THEN FORCED THEM TO CROSS
MINEFIELDS AND WALK FOR DAYS TO THE MUSLIM CITY OF TUZLA.
THIS MASS EXODUS OF REFUGEES TOOK PLACE FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
- THE SERBS DROVE THE MEN AND BOYS WHO REMAINED IN
SREBRENICA TO NEARBY WAREHOUSES AND SOCCER STADIUMS AND
EXECUTED THEM. ASSEMBLY/EXECUTION POINTS INCLUDE HANGARS
IN BRATUNAC AND KRAVICA; SOCCER FIELDS IN KASABA, KON-
JEVIC POLJE, KRAVICA, AND VLASENICA; A SCHOOL IN KARAKAJ;
A MEADOW BEHIND THE BUS STATION IN SANDICI; AND OTHER
FIELDS ALONG THE BRATUNAC-MILICI ROAD.
