transactions in the operational environment. Those points of data that are at the heart of
operational analytics are generated by operational systems. Operational systems are those
systems that run transactions and manage data inside a database management system.
There are many characteristics of operational systems. The essence of operational
applications is depicted in Fig. 12.1.2.
