Recapturing enthusiasm
Like most people, I have owned
a camera for most of my adult
life. It is only in the last 18
months that I have taken a
keener interest, upgrading
from my Nikon D40 to a Nikon
D7000. During this last 18
months, I have enjoyed the
odd day away with my father,
together with our cameras.
Sadly, he passed away on 1st
May this year due to cancer. I
lost a little of my enthusiasm
afterwards, not really picking up
my camera until I purchased my
first copy of N-Photo Magazine,
issue 51. The main feature, Take
It Slow, inspired me to pick up
my camera again, and gave
me the opportunity to use my
ND1000 filter for the first time.
I went up to the Yorkshire Dales,
to West Burton and Aysgarth,
and had a go at capturing the
waterfalls there, thoroughly
enjoying my day out. My only
regret was my father not being
there with me.

It’s great that you’re enjoying
getting out with your camera
again, even though undertaking
a previously-shared activity
alone does bring a certain
sadness. You’ve taken some
superb pictures with the help
of that ND filter – thanks for
sharing them with us, and keep
picking that D7000 up!
Waiting game
This is one of my favourite bird
photos I have taken. I was on
an island with a single pine tree
where this American Bald Eagle
would often roost. I had to watch
for the raptor to approach and
then quickly get my eye to the
viewfinder and be sure the focus
was tack sharp. I sat ready for
his landing for over two hours,
and was not sure I got the shot
since it all happened so fast.

But it was worth the wait!
Testing, testing
Rating tripods without including
ReallyRightStuff products is
absurd – oops, sorry, they are
not one of your advertisers...
Robert Coley, via email
We try to cover as wide a
range of products as possible.
In this case, the firm in
question doesn’t have a UK
distributor, so we’ve been
unable to get kit for testing –
and we won’t rate anything
we haven’t tested ourselves.
