“The idea of this piece comes from a very
old and famous mythology book in Iran,”
says freelance digital sculptor and character
artist Ali. He has been working in the CG
industry for a decade, originally as both an
animator and 3D modeller, and has found
himself gravitating towards the latter.
This particular image was sculpted
in ZBrush before being exported in
EXR format and rendered in KeyShot.
“Animating experience has had a positive
effect on my sculpting, I can use the
knowledge and handle the balance, motion
and movement in my sculpts as I
desire,” adds Ali.

When it comes to the finishing touches,
Ali values presentation above all else. “You
can sculpt a great model but waste the hard
work with a weak presentation,” he explains.
Concerning how a stand-out presentation can
be achieved he adds, “Lighting is a powerful
tool to bring attention to specific areas,
sharpen some details and make the piece
more pleasant to watch.”
Turning to nature gives Ali the energy
and motivation to sculpt, but his inspiration
comes from the Old Masters of sculpting, “to
name a few, Michelangelo, Bernini, Rodin.”
