Modo, Photoshop
Fred has been an illustrator for over 30 years
and has even worked on art for the likes of
Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy.
“I usually start with a sketch on paper,
then redraw in Photoshop. Once the sketch is
approved I start to model in Modo,” explains
Fred. All of the 3D for this creation was
carried out in Modo with the help of William
Vaughan’s plugin MOP Booleans. “This allows
live booleans that can be changed at any
point in the process. For that reason I use the
round-edge shader a lot which also helps keep
the poly count down.”
When it comes to finalising the look Fred
turns to old movie-making tricks: “Sometimes
I force the perspective, making the objects
deliberately smaller so that from a specific
angle the vanishing point is emphasised.”
