15 tips for working smarter in Maya

Whether you are new to Maya or a

seasoned user, this collection of tips will

be sure to help enhance your workflow

I

have been using Maya for
over two decades now, and
during that time I’ve touched
upon nearly all aspects of the
application, from modelling to
animation to dynamics and even
scripting. Now, I say this, yet I
don’t class myself as an expert.
Maya is constantly evolving and
with each release there is so much
more to learn and experiment
with. It’s a huge and powerful
application capable of doing so
much, so to learn everything it
has to offer, inside and out, is a
mammoth task.

With that said there are a
handful of fundamental tips and
tricks I have picked up over the
years, things that might seem
simple but do save time. Some of
these tricks may seem obvious to
those seasoned Maya users, but
you would be surprised just how
many people are unaware of these
hidden gems.
I am hoping that, in most cases,
the following collection of tips will
help to make your lives easier and
improve your workflow. If you do
find them useful feel free to pass
them on to the next generation of
Maya users.
