created in VR or traditionally, with VR animation in Quill
W
ith the consumer
version of VR headsets
such as Oculus Rift and
HTC Vive having been out for a
few years, the creative software
for those platforms are starting to
grow out of their infancy. They’re
no longer just fun concepts,
they’re proving themselves to
be invaluable tools to a steadily
increasing amount of artists –
both more 2D-oriented artists like
myself, and 3D artists alike.
Virtual reality tools such
as MasterpieceVR, Oculus
Medium, Quill and AnimVR all
still have some way to go before
they can replace their desktop
counterparts completely. But
they’re getting there, and they’re
moving fast!
The assets you can create in
those VR tools are still a bit rough
around the edges unless you
really plan ahead, and therefore
lend themselves best as a starting
point for further refinement in
desktop programs. I’m convinced,
though, that it’s only a matter of
time before you could easily start
and finish your work in VR.
In this tutorial I’ll walk you
through the process of creating a
fighter aircraft in MasterpieceVR
(this could also be done in
Oculus Medium or a desktop 3D
