X-Men: Dark Phoenix
As a result of a space mission gone wrong,
one of the X-Men’s most esteemed members,
Jean Grey (played by Sophia Turner), is
exposed to the dark Phoenix Force. This
power turns her into Phoenix, a corrupted
version of herself with amplified and out-of-
control telekinetic powers, forcing the other
X-Men to decide between saving their friend
or the world.
FIVE FACTS:
- Much of the current acting cast of the
X-Men, including James McAvoy, Michael
Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas
Hoult, first took their roles in the 2011 film
X-Men: First Class. - Turner debuted as Jean Grey in 2016’s
X-Men: Apocalypse, the predecessor to
Dark Phoenix. - Turner studied the psychological
conditions of dissociative identity disorder
and schizophrenia in preparation for
portraying the on-screen shifts between
Jean and her alter ego, Phoenix. - After rejecting roles in other superhero
films, Jessica Chastain chose to play Vuk in
this movie due to its strong focus on
female characters. - Dark Phoenix was not entirely well-
received by audiences, leading Simon
Kinberg to admit: “I’m the writer-director,
the movie didn’t connect with audiences,
that’s on me.”
