spent more than 15 years in the metallurgy
departmentofwhat is now the National Insti-
tutes for Standards andTechnology.The focus
of her work was the microbial corrosion of
metals.After gettingmarried, she worked in
real estate forashort time and then served
asasubstitute teacher in theFrederickCounty
PublicSchoolsformanyyears.
Amemorialservice will be held on October 5
at 11 a.m. at the Hyattstown United Methodist

Grant grew up in Chester,SC,the son of

He began college at age 15, graduated
withaB.A. in Chemistry fromWofford
College and thenaM.S.inChemistry from
Clemson University where he worked as
agraduate assistant teaching chemistry
to recently discharged WWII veterans.He
began 42 years ofU.S.Government service
working asascientist for the Navy at
the Research Labs in Annapolis,MDand
the AirForce in theForeignTechnology
Branch at Wright-Patterson AirForce Base
in Dayton, Ohio before joining the Defense
Intelligence Agency in 1963. He retired as
the Chief ofTechnologyTransfer,Science
andTechnology,DIA. His branch had the
responsibility of assessing sales to and
loss of technology to foreign countries for
the Department of Defense.Hewas also
agraduate of theU.S.ArmyWarCollege
and earned the Exceptional Civilian Service
Medal from DIA. Mr.Grant is survived by
his brother,Marvin; two sons,Howard and
Walter;three adult grandchildren, Calvin,
Bethany and Sarah; and five great grand-

uated from Shaker Heights High School in
1959 and attended Lasell Junior College and
the University of Michigan. Upon graduating
she worked asaKindergarten teacher in
Cleveland and Silver Spring, MD.
When she wasn’t scouting the malls for
bargains,she could be found participating
in Sisterhood events atTemple Beth Ami,
planning social gatherings and helping
friends in any way that she could. She
had the ability to strike upaconversation
with anyone she met and was the type of
friend everyone would want to have.Carol
wasalifelong bridge player and loved to try
her luck on the slot machines.
Carol is survived by her husband Edward
of Rockville; children Jeff Hopkins (Cindy)
of Atlanta, GA and LauraYoung (Jeff) of

Hung "Tony" Anh Hoang passed away on
August 30, 2019 at 9:22 PM at the age of 63
in Northern Virginia after being visited by his
siblings,nephews,nieces,extended family and
with his wife,Kim-Hoang Thi Nguyen, and his
son, Kim-Long "Kay" Nguyen Hoang by his side.
Born andraised in Saigon, Hung graduated
from Catholic high school in 1974 and con-
tinued on to Saigon University’sSchool of
Agriculture andVeterinary Medicine (Trong
Dai Hoc Nông Lâm Súc). His life was inter-
rupted in April 1975 during the fall of South
Vietnam, when he also met his future wife.
Moving to the United States in 1981, Hung
brought his love and expertise of music,dance,
and photography with him-enlivening and
documenting life events such as weddings for
many Vietnamese-Americans.12years after
leaving Vietnam, he would haveaserendip-
itous meeting with his soon-to-be wife in
Northern Virginia in the winter of 1993, when
they also married. Ever determined, he found
work in many avenues to support his family,
becameaMaster Printer in 1988, graduated
Strayer College in 1994, and advised local
Vietnamese businesses.Inhis retirement,
Hung dedicated his time helping his family and
the Vietnamese-Americancommunity prosper
as he always has.
Hung's legacy is remembered by his numerous
family members in addition to his wife and son.

    Virginia Jeffers embodied some of the best
    qualities of the American west-common
    sense,practicality,and straightforwardness
    -along withadeep love of the Arts and
    learning.Throughout her long life,she
    demonstrated the basic virtues of kindness
    and decency in her daily actions.
    Mrs.Jeffers was born in 1926 in Seattle,
    Washington, the only child of Alice and
    Jesse Johnson, and attended Bryn Mawr
    College.She worked at theU.S.Embassy
    in Oslo,Norway,afterWorldWarII, and
    later at the Office of Naval Intelligence
    inWashington, DC.Mrs.Jeffers and her
    husband were married in 1954 and moved
    to Bethesda where theyraised their three
    children.
    In addition to her family,Mrs.Jeffers main-
    tained an enthusiastic interest in NFL and
    college football and was an avid reader.
    She enjoyed travel and wasanotable
    cook for lovely dinner parties she and her
    husband frequently hosted. Mrs.Jeffers
    also volunteered with Meals On Wheels,
    theWashington National Cathedral, and -
    perhaps most rewarding-the Naturalist
    Center at the Smithsonian Institution.
    A“Celebration of Life” reception will be
    held at MaplewoodPark Place,9707 Old
    Georgetown Road, Bethesda, at2p.m. on
    Thursday,September 5.Amemorial service
    and interment will take place in the future
    at Arlington National Cemetery,where Mrs.
    Jeffers’ late husband rests.

and went on to the University of Richmond
where he graduated in 1963, making him the
first of his family to graduate college.While at
the University of Richmond, he earnedaB.S.in

Lambda Chi AlphaFraternity.After serving in
theU.S.Navy,helaunchedasuccessful career
asastockbroker at Bellamah, Newhouser and
Barrett. In 1989 he went to Johnston, Lemon
&Company where he diligently worked until
his retirement in 2001. Always the life of the
party,Charlie hadapassion for decorating,
antiquing, food, traveling, friends,and family.
Tothose close to him, he was known for his
ability to provide sound and reliable guidance
when facing life’stough decisions.
Adedicated father,husband, grandfather,and
friend, he is survived by his wife,Virginia Bell
Jenkins; his daughters,Molly Elizabeth Jenkins,
of the ShenandoahValley and Lindsay Jenkins
Monger and her husband, John Henry Monger
IV,ofHarrisonburg; his three stepchildren,
Latané Beck Conant and her husband, Carson

Massachusetts during WWII asa“mill girl.”
She married in 1947 and during her time
as the wife and partner of an AirForce
pilot and officer,she expertly navigated her
way with eight children in tow,through 50
moves,while being stationed in California,
Alabama,Texas,Michigan, Florida, Connecti-
cut,France,Germany,Panama and finally
settled in New Hampshire and Virginia. She
retired from Raleigh’sinFair Oaks,Virginia as
afine clothing salesperson where she took
great pride in her work and later enjoyed
spoiling her children and grandchildren with
the pension she earned each month.
Singing wasaway of life for Doris until her
very last days.Her beloved mother told her
that if you learnasong before breakfast,
you would remember it the rest of your life.
She remembered every lyric to thousands of
songs and she and Tim led the O’Neill family
St.Patrick’sDay sing-along for 50 years,
which always culminated with her beautiful
rendition of Danny Boy.Doris and her sisters
sang together throughout Massachusetts in
their younger years and she was President of
the ladies Skylark singing group presenting
English and Spanish language concerts in
Panama, Central and South America and
President of the Albrook/Howard Officers’
Wives Club.She continued to sing atFalcons
Landing asasoloist and cantor at mass
and memorial services.She passed on her
love of singing to her children and she is
undoubtedly teaching the choir in heaven a
few tunes.
Doris’ hobbies include sewing, needlework
and cooking.She was active in Sew Much
Comfort atFalcons Landing making special
garments forWoundedWarriors with pros-
thetic devices.She will be missed by all
whose lives she touched with her great
kindness,generous spirit and love.Wehave
lostabeautiful mother,sister,nana, great-
grandmother,aunt, and friend but Heaven
has surely gained an Angel.
ACatholic memorial mass and reception will
be held atafuture date atFalcons Landing,
to be followed by her interment at Arlington
National Cemetery,where she will join her
beloved husband.

August 5, 1924~September 1, 2019
Doris O’Neill passed peacefully atFalcons
Landing Retirement Community on Sunday,
September 1, 2019 of natural causes.She
was surrounded with loving family,friends,
music,and prayer.
The daughter of Israel Robarge and Irene
Ducharme,Doris was born in Lowell and
grew up in Dracut, Massachusetts.She was
preceded on her journey to Heaven by her
beloved husband, Col. TimothyF.O’Neill,
USAF Retired, to whom she was married for
67 years.She was often heard to say “Isn’t it
amazing thatafarm girl like me was blessed
to live this glorious life!” She is survived by
two loving sisters,Theresa and Simone; her
eight children, Brian, Barry,Michael, Steven,
Timothy Jr., Cathy,Donna and Diane; 17
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren –
all of whom were truly blessed to experience
what it meant to be loved unconditionally.
Doris was especially proud of herFrench
Canadian heritage.English was her second
language asachild but she continued to
speakFrench, and later Spanish, fluently
throughout her life.When she wasn’t work-
ing on her family farm, she was excelling
in school and was the first member of
her family to graduate high school, in fact,
winning the title of New England Spelling
BeeChampion. She was also an excellent
athlete who was nicknamed the “Queen
of Swat” for her prowess on the baseball
diamond. Doris worked in the textile mills of

son, David. She enjoyed her 10 grandchildren
and got to watch them all grow into young
