NAME: Francine Houben

BORN: 1955 in Sittard,

the Netherlands

CAREER: Houben is co-founder

and creative director of

Mecanoo Architects, which has

designed buildings such as

the Montevideo residential

tower (Rotterdam, the

Netherlands), the Library

of Birmingham (UK), and the

National Kaohsiung Center for

the Arts (Taiwan). She is

currently working on the

renovation of the New York

Public Library on Fifth

Avenue (US). Houben has three

adult children and lives with

her husband Hans Andersson in

Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
