She admits it’s not easy starting a
creative business in today’s climate. “It’s
sad to see how many independent shops
have disappeared. I hope that we are
doing our little part to provide a place for
community and inspiration. My favourite
things are watching friendships develop
at a class. And I love it when customers
bring in their beautiful creations.”
How does she stay so motivated? “I
love creating and making! And I love
being able to share this joy with everyone
who comes into the shop, and knowing
how much peace and pleasure it brings. I
love having a place where I can be myself,
and be silly. My family really help too –
especially my husband. He makes sure
I’m fed and watered and rested. This is my
tribe. And it’s exactly what I’d hoped for!”
What lies ahead for Milli? “I’m always
looking forward to discovering new yarns
and workshops. I’m hoping to fi nd ways
of attracting more people to the joys of
crochet and knitting. I really believe it’s so
good for you, and in this crazy fast-paced
world of external validation and instant
gratifi cation, I think it brings a lot of calm
and happiness. It’s the antidote. I hope to
make and nurture more friendships and
keep holding a space in which people are
free to be themselves.”
