DISCUSSING HIS BOOK,

Mobituaries: Great Lives Worth Reliving

November 13, 8pm
Aratani Theatre, Downtown Los Angeles

Mo Rocca is a correspondent forCBS Sunday Morning,
host ofThe Henry
Ford’s Innovation
Nation, and host
and creator of the
Cooking Channel’s
My Grandmother’s
Ravioli. He’s also a

Tell Me.

Mo Rocca has always loved
obituaries—reading about the
remarkable lives of world
leaders, captains of industry,
innovators and artists. But not
every notable life has gotten the
send-off it deserves. With
Mobituaries: Great Lives Worth
Reliving—the book companion to the CBS podcast of the
same name—the journalist, humorist, and history buff is
righting that wrong, profiling the people who have long
fascinated him—from the 20th century’s greatest
entertainer ... to sitcom characters gone all too soon ... to
a shamefully forgotten Founding Father. Even if you know
the names, you’ve never understood why they matter ...
until now.

AN EVENING WITH

Daniel Siegel

and Tina Payne Bryson

DISCUSSING THEIR BOOK

The Power of Showing Up: How Parental

Presence Shapes Who Our Kids Become

and How Their Brains Get Wired

January 16, 8pm 8pm
William Turner Gallery

Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., is a
clinical professor of
psychiatry at the David
Geffen School of Medicine
at UCLA, the founding
co-director of the UCLA
Mindful Awareness

Research Center, and the executive director of the
Mindsight Institute.
Dr. Siegel is the author of several books, including the
New York TimesbestsellersAwareandBrainstorm, and is
the co-author with Tina Payne Bryson ofThe Whole-Brain
Child,No-Drama Discipline, andThe Yes Brain.
Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D., is the founder and executive
director of the Center for Connection, a multidisciplinary
clinical practice, and of the Play Strong Institute, a center
devoted to the study, research, and practice of play therapy
through a neurodevelopmental lens. She is a licensed
clinical social worker, providing pediatric and adolescent
psychotherapy and parenting consultations.
One of the very best scientific predictors for how any
child turns out—in terms of happiness, academic success,
leadership skills, and meaningful relationships—is whether
at least one adult in their life has consistently shown up for
them. In an age of scheduling demands and digital
distractions, showing up for your child might sound like a
tall order. Showing up means offering a quality of presence.
And it’s simple to provide once you understand the four
building blocks of a child’s healthy development. Every
child needs to feel what Siegel and Bryson call the Four S’s:
Safe, Seen, Soothed and Secure.
Based on the latest brain and attachment research,The
Power of Showing Upshares stories, scripts, simple
strategies, illustrations, and tips for honoring the Four S’s
effectively in all kinds of situations—when our kids are
struggling or when they are enjoying success; when we are
consoling, disciplining, or arguing with them; and even
when we are apologizing for the times we don’t show up
for them. Demonstrating that mistakes and missteps are
repairable and that it’s never too late to mend broken trust,
this book is a powerful guide to cultivating your child’s
healthy emotional landscape.
